About Chalet Les Houlottes ...
Just a few minutes away from the charming village of Manigod, Chalet Les Houlottes is the perfect base for two families or a group of friends looking to enjoy all the La Clusaz region has to offer.
Combining comfort, practicality and style, Les Houlottes' south-facing position makes the most of panoramic views of La Tournette, Val Sulens and L'Aiguille, and the newly-built terrace is the perfect place to admire them.
The chalet is in a quiet position, but it's just a 15-minute walk in to Manigod village, where you can pick up fresh bread and regional delicatessen, enjoy a Savoyard meal in Val Sulens restaurant, which will also do takeaway food.
The property ...
Set over three floors, the stylish accommodation at Les Houlottes offers plenty of space for nine people. Two comfortable living areas mean there’s room for the adults to enjoy a quiet evening around the fire while teenagers let off steam in the huge games room, playing table tennis, darts, Xbox or watching TV.
There are two double bedrooms, one triple and a twin, where the beds can be joined together, and two bathrooms. Two of the bedrooms open on to the sunny balcony - the perfect place for your morning tea.
The kitchen has everything you need to cater for a large group, and the dining room has double doors out on to the terrace, so you can eat outside on a clear night and watch for shooting stars.
About the area ...
With the ski bus stopping in the centre of Manigod, you’ve got the whole of the Aravis ski area at your disposal - more than 200km of slopes.
If you choose to drive, there’s plenty of parking at the ski stations. Floodlights on some of the pistes mean you can ski until 1am in La Clusaz, on certain dates throughout the year, and the weekly torchlit descent is an experience you’ll never forget.
Cross-country skiers will find plenty of trails to choose from, and non-skiers are not forgotten, with a heated indoor/outdoor swimming pool, ice rink and cinema, as well as sledging, snow-shoe walking, dog-sledding and horse-drawn sleigh rides.
For the ultimate in winter fun, try paragliding on skis or ski joering – skiing while towed by a horse!
In the summer, you'll be hard pressed to tear yourself away from the stunning views and the sunny terrace at Les Houlottes, but if you don’t, you’ll miss out on all the fun and adventure of summer in the La Clusaz region.
There’s no shortage of walks, from mountain trails to hiking on the Gliéres plateau, the scene of the Resistance’s campaign in World War II.
Adrenalin junkies can try paragliding, canyoning, climbing, mountain-biking or white-water rafting - just some of the activities on offer within a few miles of Manigod.
Via ferrata is a great family day out, with children as young as eight able to explore the mountains on iron walkways, safely secured to a harness.
A day out in Annecy is a must - you can explore the streets and canals of the town or take a cruise across the lake, stopping off at waterside restaurants or secluded beaches.
If you think Chalet Les Houlottes would be the perfect base for your holiday in the Alps, check your dates against our availability calendar - we can hold the property for you for 24 hours if you need a little more time. However, Chalet les Houlottes is a popluar choice with OVO Network guests, so don't wait too long!
The OVO Network Review
“The spacious ground floor TV/ games room space and general layout make Chalet Houlottes a great choice for extended families wanting to share precious family time”
Chalet Houlottes is a 4 bedroom 2 bathroom chalet for 9 (max 8 adults) spread over three floors and 230m2 of floor space.
Chalet Houlottes is a comfortable, functional and spacious chalet. The spacious ground floor TV/ games room space and general layout make Chalet Houlottes a great choice for extended families wanting to share precious family time, two families sharing or a group of friends.
The games room features table tennis, darts, TV, X-box and comfy sofas - the kids can take over the ground floor while the adults relax around the fireplace in the first floor lounge. Perfect!
With a bathroom on each of the top two floors and wc on each floor. Younger children will enjoy the cosy triple bedroom - cable car included (see photos).
The kitchen and bathrooms are the most recently renovated indoor areas at the chalet.
Set above and back from the road between Manigod village and the L'Aiguille de Manigod, access to Manigod village and then onto the ski slopes is good and clear in the winters. Manigod Village is a 15 minute walk away.
There are walks from the front door of the chalet. Views from the balcony or the terrace are stunning all year round. The owner always ensures the window boxes are beautiful each summer. For those keen to get up and go somewhere different every day, there is good access to the lakeside ports and beaches between Doussard and Annecy. Thrill seekers can enjoy quality cycling, climbing, mountain biking, paragliding, Via Ferrata, water skiing, wake boarding etc etc etc all within a 30 minute drive of Chalet Houlottes.

From the Owner
The location is exceptional, with panoramic views to the Etale, Aiguille de Manigod, Mont Sulens and Tournette mountains.
“I worked for a few years for the UN in Geneva and remembered skiing over the crest into Manigod and thinking what a glorious valley it was. When we had a chance to buy a chalet here, and one in such a perfect spot, we jumped at the chance.
Les Houlottes has brought our family lots of adventures and much happiness. The location is exceptional, with panoramic views to the Etale, Aiguille de Manigod, Mont Sulens and Tournette mountains. We’ve climbed them all over the years and grown to love the changing views through each day and across the seasons. In winter, the Croix Fry offers lovely family skiing and is known amongst Parisians as the perfect place to bring children to ski.
Our youngsters have all learnt there and were very rapidly able to head off on mini-adventures, meeting back at Chez Fonfon for sunny lunches on the terrace overlooking the nursery slope. The easy links into the big La Clusaz ski domaine mean that even the most adventurous skiiers can find exciting routes.
The drive up to the ski slopes takes about 10 minutes, but you could also catch the skibus from the village.
Summer in Manigod is very green, with wildflower meadows and the sound of cowbells in the distance. Evenings often find us recovering from mountain-biking or hiking, sitting out on the terrace with aperitifs, watching the sunset turn the Etale a soft purple. As the stars emerge, dinner begins and our youngest rings the giant cow bell to call everyone from different parts of the chalet.
We enjoy days out in the beautiful villages of Talloires and Veyrier, about 25 minutes away on the banks of lake Annecy. We swim, sail and dive from pedaloes into the clear water of the lake. We sometimes stay down at the lake for relaxed dinners in one of the lakeside restaurants.
The village is a 15-minute walk from the chalet, but on summer mornings we usually send someone on a bike to pick up fresh bread and croissants from the excellent boulangerie.
Les Houlottes means the baby owls in the local patois of the couple who built the chalet and who treasured it for 20 years. We bought it 9 years ago and are only the second owners. It’s very much a traditional chalet, with wooden walls and a log fire which combine to give it a delicious chalet smell! At the same time, we want it to be comfortable and up-to-date, so things like decent wi-fi, lots of hot water and an excellent kitchen matter a lot to us.
The interiors are inspired by a love of Scandinavian design and we hope you will find them bright and fresh. We have three children aged between 12 and 4 and a typical holiday week for us rarely involves less than six children haring around the chalet. We have arranged the interior to allow children space to play and hang out - and adults space to relax.
It’s a large chalet, but rather than cramming in lots of bedrooms, we have kept four large and airy bedrooms and retained lots of space for living and playing.
Downstairs there is a large games room with a sofa, table tennis table, dart board, board games, home cinema (with UK and French cable television and stacks of DVDs) and an X-Box.
Upstairs, there’s another sitting room with sofa and chairs around an open fire and another television, just in case the spectacular views don’t absorb you completely.
Mountain sports are an important part of our life; we ski, climb, hike and cycle and the chalet is full of historic climbing photos and mountaineering books. From the front door you can head off on wonderful walks, snaking through the woods (with wild strawberries in the summer) and working your way to the head of the valley past alpages towards dramatic rock faces and clear mountain streams.
We’ve tried to think through all the practicalities of skiing and hiking holidays, so when you enter the chalet you’ll walk straight into a paneled boot room with coat hooks all round the walls, ski racks and a long wooden bench. The underfloor heating will dry out mitts and hats long before the morning and there’s a huge laundry nearby for dealing with grimy kit.
We’re very keen cooks, and friends who stay at the chalet include food writers and restauranteurs, hence the induction hob, and good quality kitchen equipment. The long wooden dining table has hosted many epic dinners; we hope you will enjoy eating there with your friends and family. We hope that you will love holidays at Les Houlottes as much as we do and take away your own happy memories of fun in the mountains. Lucy and Tom Carrell
Nice accommodation, functional with a nice feel about it.

“A brilliant family chalet! ”
The chalet is exactly as described. Everything is very good, apart from the wooden floor upstairs, which creaked (but for a wooden chalet, what can you expect). Everything is well organised and the welcome was perfect.

“See you soon, Manigod!”
We were really happy with our communication with OVO Network. As for the location, it met all our expectations, and we wouldn't hesitate to rent other properties through OVO.

“A nice traditional chalet”
Houlottes is a nice chalet, with cozy space, traditional yet modern.
We especially liked the downstairs TV/game room.
We loved the area. We've stayed in the Flumet area before and we really prefered Manigod and its surroundings,in particular the Croix-Fry station.
Raghav G. - 23/12/2017
“It was everything we had hoped for”
A perfect welcome at a chalet which was all we could have hoped for, in an authentic setting. We realy loved the allocation of space over three floors, which meant there was plenty of space to do different things, without getting in the way of others in our group. There was no snow at the chalet, which made access easy.

“A lovely restful stay ...”
A beautiful location and view with lots of opportunities for walks. This children loved the big games room on the ground floor.
Francis D. - 16/07/2016
“The children's rooms are lovely !”
Also the TV room is great. The chalet was warm and comfortable with plenty of hot water, ideal after skiing. The snow was great and we loved the restaurant of Marie-Ange Veyrat.
Rachida V. - 27/02/2016
“Loved our stay. ”
Well equipped, charming property with stunning outlook. It's a lovely and quiet location but within good reach of surrounding villages. There was plenty of accommodation for our party of 6 adults and the table tennis was a bonus and in constant use. The weather was superb and the scenery spectacular.
Linda F. - 05/09/2015
We spent a very nice week in this pretty chalet. It has a great location, very quiet, with stunning views. The bedrooms are nicely decorated with also very good beds and beautiful bathrooms. We had great weather and did enjoy beautiful walks in the area.

“We had a wonderful stay in this great chalet.”
It is a spacious, comfortable and well equipped house with everything you need. The service was uncomplicated and we felt like home. Everthing perfect. There are also great possibilities for hiking, climbing, cycling, with beautiful lakes nearby. Thanks a lot.
Bertram I. - 08/08/2015
A nice chalet with everything necessary to spend a good time.

“See you very soon!”
A beautiful building, very well equipped and tastefully decorated. The bedrooms are spacious and the children loved their floor. The multimedia room in the basement with the games and table tennis room was very useful and was used by both children and adults. The heated area at the entrance for skis and outdoor clothes was great. We would recommend making the most of it in winter for its proximity to Manigod and in summer for the lovely walks and the aperos on the terrace. The views from the dining room and from the sitting room are sensational.

“Skiing great, chalet great, everyone happy!”
We had a really super holiday at Les Houlottes. You can tell it is a loved chalet. After a long day skiing, to sit by the fire with a book was a dream! I'd like to have stayed until I had finished reading all the books. I like how the telly is in the playroom and not in the sitting room. The beds were comfy and we slept very well as it was so quiet at night. I would love to see it in the spring. Also we liked to be able to bring our dogs. Thank you.
Isabella C. - 07/02/2015
“Fantastic place to stay”
Great walks, great views, great food, great cycling. Fantastic spaces, comfy beds, games room was great too! C'est parfait!

“Really spacious, amazing scenery, good walking”
There were six of us (all adults) as we had planned a holiday with our children who live in various parts of the world and we did not feel overcrowded at all. The amenities were excellent. We would definitely recommend this chalet, either for a group of adults or a family with younger children. The 'playroom' was very well stocked with both toys, table tennis and dartboard etc. It was as good as the advert for it on the website.

“Excellent place to stay”
We're not used to spend our summer break in the mountains, however we loved our fortnight at Chalet Houlottes. First of all the chalet was exactly what we were looking for: spacious, comfortable, in the middle of the nature, with views that make you forget all your problems! Manigod village is only a 10 minute walk away (great little morning walk to go buy fresh bread and croissants, but be careful, coming back is a bit harder! But it's good for your health!). There is a convenience shop, a bakery, a restaurant and bar. Down the valley in Thônes, you'll find bigger supermarkets. The area is just fantastic. There is so much to do: picturesque villages, hikes, Annecy... At least a whole month would be necessary to see it all!

“Lovely chalet, we recommend it”
So much snow this winter! We couldn't get enough! The pistes (for all levels) are easily accessible in Croix Fry or La Clusaz (you can organise lessons in both places). We appreciated the fact the resort is still a nice village, and not a concrete jungle. We discovered beautiful panoramic views on top of the world, and delicious restaurants on the pistes. Returning to the chalet was always a pleasure. Cosy atmosphere, quiet evening far from the crowd. Good beds, well equipped kitchen. Lots of light during the day, and many board games to play at night. Village nearby.

“For a great family holiday”
Our family spent a fantastic Christmas week in this beautiful and comfortable chalet. Everything was in excellent state and decorated with good taste. There is plenty of space to play inside as well as outside: ideal for holidays with kids! We've highly appreciated the Xmas tree set for the occasion! Many thanks!

“Cosy and well equipped. Fantastic setting.”
We have been regular visitors to the chalet over the past few years, enticed back by its enduring appeal both in Summer and Winter.
In Winter, the 10-minute easy drive up to the Croix Fry has provided the prefect base for several members of our family to learn to ski. It also offers enough to stretch intermediate skiers, particularly on the short black run on the Etale. And the mountain restaurants are great for soaking up the sun and enjoying a lunchtime glass of wine. We have struck up a great relationship with a couple of the local guides and enjoyed some off-piste adventures around La Clusaz as challenging as you could find anywhere in the Alps.
In Summer, the walks around the Chalet suit all abilities. A half hour stroll takes you to Manigod Village with its pretty church, wonderful bakery, small but well stocked supermarket, pottery shop, and friendly Auberge. And on the way back, we regularly call in at one of the farms to stock up on butter and Reblochon and Tomme cheeses. On a more energetic day, we have hiked over the top of the Tournette and dropped down to Lake Annecy to cool off with a swim. On a hot day Thônes is worth a visit to use the outdoor pool or climb the Via Ferrata. There is a tempting outdoor market on a Saturday morning selling seasonal local produce.
The chalet is cosy and well equipped for preparing a hearty Tartiflette in Winter or for enjoying a barbeque on the balcony in the Summer. And there are some lovely authentic restaurants within easy driving distance. One of our favourites is the Chalet d’en O just outside Thones.

“The views from the terrace are out of this world.”
A wonderful chalet (for families or group of friends). Perfectly situated for access to the extensive ski area of Le Clusaz and just under an hour's easy drive from Geneva. One could not ask for more.
The chalet itself, although traditional in appearance has all the mod cons and provides the most comfortable base from which to explore the area. Oh and the views from the terrace are out of this world.
For those that love their food there are numerous options however, one restaurant in particular stands out - Le Bercail, with its unique ski-doo pick-up service, serves mountain food that will blow your mind. Be sure not to turn down the frozen Genepi digestif.

“We have spent many FANTASTIC holidays in Les Houlottes”
Spring, Summer, Winter: regardless of the season, the spaciousness of the chalet, the ability for the kids to enjoy the vast games room with the adults the main living area or garden means everyone is happy even after long and tiring days on the mountains or in the water.
An early morning climb (fuelled by the local boulangerie) up the beautiful Mont Sulens, a longer day up Tournette or Charvin is best enjoyed in the warmth of the sun, sitting on the balcony of the chalet, surrounded by direct views on the peaks you have conquered and wondering about those you haven't.
La Croix Fry has been the starting point for all our children's skiing exploits -starting aged 3 at the Jardin d' Enfants and steadily getting onto the red runs by aged 5! Ski school is enjoyed by them all, but topped by the long ski circuits from Croix Fry to La Balme via Aiguille, and back to the start point via La Clusaz and Beauregard. Great family skiing -with challenges for kids, parents and uncles.
Edward M. - 17/03/2012
“Warm and cosy in winter, yet bright and airy in summer”
We have stayed at Les Houlottes for several winter and summer holidays and, as a family, can never agree as to whether we prefer our summer our winter visits! The chalet is very comfortable and in such a lovely setting, warm and cosy in winter and yet bright and airy in summer. We love both the Manigod and La Clusaz ski areas which are a short drive away and offer great skiing for all abilities, the bonus being all the fantastic cafes and restaurants which are full of character (the "Plats du Jour" are always excellent!!!). In summer our favourite activities are the mountain walks, swimming in Lake Annecy, cycling (including the ski runs) and the swimming and Adventure Park in Thônes. The weekly market in Thônes is a must. We look forward to returning again soon.

Why La Clusaz?
Less than an hour from Geneva, La Clusaz offers Alpine action all year round. A traditional farming village, it not only offers great skiing and superb summer activities, but also a real community feel, whenever you visit. Great restaurants, bars and nightlife combine with local markets, festivals and traditions to give you the best of all worlds.
